First up in our new series of speaker Q&As is Chris Astle, CEO of Think Forwards, CFO of eWaterPay, and Resident CFO at Finance Director Magazine.

How did you get in to the profession?

After completing my PhD in Medicinal Chemistry I wanted to develop my financial and business acumen and PwC London seemed like the perfect next step.

What’s the most challenging aspect of your job?

As I run my own business, the most challenging aspect is to ensure my team are happy, motivated and growing.  Done well then my customers are happy, and so I am happy!

And the most rewarding?

Completing a project and getting great customer feedback is really heartening.  I also love meeting new clients and hearing their story.

Who or what inspires you to be even better?

My children – I want them to be proud of the work I do.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Surround yourself with people better than yourself.

What do you want delegates to take away from your session?

That they, and their teams, really can influence the direction of their business and have a real impact!
